A Celebration of the 261st Birthday of Robert Burns and Chinese New Year 2019 – “The Year of the Rat”
A quirky, Scottish/Chinese event celebrating Scottish poet Robbie Burns Birthday Celebration and Chinese New Year is set for Sunday, February 23 from 4 PM to 8:30 PM at the China Harbor Restaurant in Seattle on the west side of Lake Union. Bill McFadden of the St. Andrews Society of Seattle is again sponsoring this cross-cultural event. And of course Scottish kilts and tartans along with Chinese Happy Jackets are encouraged at this cross-cultural event!
Doors open at 4 PM. The evening will include both Scottish and Chinese musical entertainment. Over and above the ticket price of $45 they do hold two opportunities to donate to the performance groups. First there will be a “pass the drum” and the second is a dessert auction. They ask that folks donate as they feel comfortable doing. Money raised benefits the youth performance groups that participate! A worthy cause!!!
While the program for Gung Haggis Fat Choy varies from year to year, they try to keep a balance between Scottish and Chinese entertainment with a full evening of cultural variety. As is customary, the program opens with the Chinese Lion Dance Troupe from Northwest Kung Fu and Fitness directed by Sifu David F. Leong and of course Scottish Pipes and Drums featuring the Northwest Junior Pipe Band.
Tickets are $45 per ticket and include dinner and haggis with plum sauce anyone? Bill has set aside 8 tables for my group. Don’t be disappointed as I understand a lot of people have already reserved most of the other tables! Let me know ASAP if you do or don’t plan on attending in my group just in case we need more tables! AND if yes, put your money where your mouth is and send me your check ASAP made out to Gung Haggis Fat Choy for $45 per ticket. I’ll provide the address when you contact me via email!
